Mushroom Foraying as a Family Sport
Over the years, I have often heard old folks recall fond memories of hunting mushrooms with their parents. Toddlers, teens and seniors can venture on mushroom hunts. All can share that 'eureka!' surprise of discovering a mushroom hiding under a log, behind a bush, or at their feet. Searching forests for fungal treasures is one of my all-time favorite activities. Not only are there deliciously edible species, but also their forms and colors exhibit Nature's best expressions of grace and elegance. Local mycological clubs are mushrooming across the Americas (see www.namyco.org), Asia and Europe. Join a myco-community and learn from local experts.

Mushroom hunting is good exercise, too. Besides getting the family outdoors, it answers a primal yearning for adventure, challenges one's sense of direction, and tunes your attention to Nature. And it's just weird enough to be cool for all ages!
